What We Carried With Us focuses on cherished objects that migrants have carried with them from their home country to Scotland. These “Souvenirs from Home” represent an emotional connection with those left behind.
What We Carried With Us is a collective project that aims to humanise the transnational experience while preserving the privacy and anonymity of the participating migrant. The project appropriates a visual vernacular from the advertising industry to maximise its directness of communication. This approach aims to avoid an artistic discourse that focuses solely on the visual, thereby highlighting the migrant’s textual contribution.
